Disability and COVID-19: who counts depends on who is counted

“The article, ‘Disability and COVID-19: who counts depends on who is counted’ elucidates on the existing disability data gap even when recent publications have highlighted how people with disabilities are at increased risk from COVID-19. The paper further discusses the impact of the lack of surveillance on collecting disability data that perpetuates the exclusion of disabled people from discussions of health equity and policies that are data driven. The profound global impact of COVID-19 presents a unique opportunity to create a new normal and the paper strongly advocates the importance of inclusion of people with disability in data-driven research in imagining a more equitable and healthier society. People with disabilities must be counted.”
